House Republicans Waste $Millions Today

Based on 2007 figures and adjusted for inflation, a conservative estimate (sic) is that House Republicans are wasting $3,287,671 today on a “symbolic vote.”  This estimate is also based on the House being open for business 365 days of the year, which of course it is not.

Anyone out there wasting that much with symbolic gestures at home today?

Can anyone think of a symbolic gesture they deserve?

By the way, I have a great budget-cutting idea.

Google’s new privacy policy — nice try

Google announced 9/3/10 that they are “…simplifying and updating (their) privacy policies….to make our policies more transparent and understandable….”

I think they have a little more work to do.

A quick run of their proposed updated main privacy policy through an online readability index calculator shows that you’ll need a Master’s Degree reading level to understand it, and rates the policy at a “reading ease score” of 10, right near a “legalese” level.

Spam comments again

Signed on a couple of days ago while thinking about how to merge Mocha’s subdomain into the overall WordPress site.  Found once again about 2500 spam comments.  Was able to delete these in batches of 200 at a time, so did not take too long to do this but still it was a pain.  I changed some of the settings again in the ‘discussion’ section including unchecking ‘allow comments on articles,’ so I’ll see if that prevents this.  Still need to figure out how best to merge the mocha.gordonsplace subdomain.

What a Great Platform

Congrats to WordPress. Thelonius is just brilliant. Never been so easy to change the header image. Thank you!!

Installed WP 3.0

Trying out WP 3.0 and their built in theme “Thelonius”. Not bad looking but have to figure out how to put my own image in the header.

Also now found out this site has gotten slammed with thousands of spam comments. The way I had the settings allowed anyone to comment, and of course anyone and everyone hawking all kinds of garbage, did. So now I have to figure out how to do a bulk delete of 7,725 comments…if I can.

There’s a lot of stuff goes on

I love this quote from Tony La Russa. It applies to so much. For example, I was able to get the header just right (after a considerable amount of tweaking and thanks to a fantastic little program called “IrfanView” [remind me, I have to make a donation to that developer, and you should absolutely check it out yourself:   IrfanView]) and consequently was able to get my professional site exactly how I wanted it to look {link not provided, I am still trying to keep personal and professional lives separate though that is virtually impossible}. That was a week plus ago and I haven’t posted here since then.  A lot of stuff goes on.

Now I’m starting to take a look at themes that will work for the web site of an organization for which I am the designated web guy {see this link}.

There is still a lot to do around here too! There are a lot of links here that I haven’t recreated yet.
